Sharon Christie Law: Social Security Disability Benefits for Wounded Warriors

Are there Social Security Disability Benefits for Wounded Warriors?

At Sharon Christie Law we are asked often if there are Social Security Disability Benefits for Wounded Warriors. So today we would like to talk to you today about disabled veterans and what that means when you are applying for Social Security Disability. Now in the VA there is a program called wounded warriors, and here at Sharon Christie Law we receive a lot of calls from veterans asking whether once they are found disabled under the Wounded Warrior Program and disabled by the VA will that mean that they are automatically found disabled by Social Security. The answer is no, because you have to remember that in the military they have a very specific definition of disabled.

So for example, if you have conditions that will prevent you from being a soldier in the military that will qualify you for some type of disability rating in my experience that is not the same as Social Security Disability. Remember under Social Security Disability we are looking at more than whether you can function as a soldier, we are looking at whether you can do any kind of job at all. Any type of civilian job so you have to remember that distinction. Now if you are found disabled and you are in the Wounded Warrior Program and you are applying for Social Security Disability Benefits your case will be expedited. It will be moved along faster and that is very beneficial, but you still go through the same basic process as anyone else who is applying for Social Security Disability Benefits.
